This past Sunday we took a trip up the river. Up several rivers, to be precise. Three rivers converge near the village: The Talkeetna, the Susitna, and the Chulitna. Captain Izzy from Mahay’s Jet Boat Adventures took us out on the Talkeetna Princess for a private, family tour!
It was a stunning day and we really enjoyed the sights; glacial gorges, trees freshly gnawed by beavers, and a mama moose with calf along the riverbank.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, business is a little unusual for our friends and neighbors running tours, and Mahay’s is offering their private tours at a discounted price. While their regular pricing would be a stretch for a family our size, the special was too good to pass up and Captain Izzy made us feel like rock stars!
Highly recommend going for a ride up the river!

River trips are fab and give a totally different perspective on the lie of the land. We did one in Australia and watched the crocs jump out the water. Glad you got the VIP treatment – upgrades must be nice!
